Water

Carrington Aquifer system, a sand and gravel aquifer underlain by Pierre shale bedrock, is 12 miles long, three miles wide, and 39 to 59 feet deep. One well is 24 inches in diameter and rated at 900 gallons per minute (GPM). The other is 18 inches in diameter and rates at 650 GPM.

Carrington's water treatment plant carries a maximum day demand of one million gallons per day (1MGD) which can be supplied at the rate of 695 GPM steady pumping for 24 hours each day. The smaller well can nearly supply the maximum design capacity of the plant.

Fire and Police Protection

Round-the-clock protection is provided by Carrington Police Department with four full-time police officers and several part-time officers on staff.

Computerized record systems provide a direct link with the state.

Four fire insurance purposes, Carrington is rated as a Class 6 city. Over 40 volunteers are trained to handle any emergency, with the help of annual training and an extensive line of fire protection equipment.

A full-service ambulance is presently being managed and operated by a full-time EMT/paramedic and community volunteers. Future plans call for Carrington Health Center to assume responsibility for ambulance services.
