City of Carrington, ND

QUALITY OF LIFE IN CARRINGTON

Adopted by City Council January 12, 2004

Although an elusive concept, both difficult to quantify and define, quality of life in Carrington, ND is something each of us seeks to achieve for ourselves, our families, our businesses, and our community. Defining quality of life in Carrington requires both an understanding and appreciation of what we are now, where we have been, and a vision of the ideal future state we hope to attain. It requires a self reflection of the community members in order to determine what we are willing and able to do in order to make our vision a reality.

We envision Carrington as a well-rounded community, being a great place to live, work and raise a family. Carrington is a friendly, attractive, clean and safe community, which is appreciated by its residents and visitors alike. The citizens of Carrington take great pride in their community and its community spirit. Through collaboration, cooperation and commitment of time, resources and leadership, we have developed a network which serves the community well.

The community's current recreational opportunities include a new 18-hole golf course, a quality swimming pool and a very nice system of parks within the community which house tennis courts, a few baseball and softball diamonds, and playgrounds. We have a year-round movie theater as well as opportunities on a regular basis for musical entertainment, art presentations, and a variety of other cultural opportunities. The city of Carrington is able to provide a positive and attractive living environment with an adequate housing supply for the present and is committed to meeting the future needs. We are home to many fine businesses, making it possible to both live and work in Carrington. We have two excellent school systems, one public and one private. Carrington Health Center, a 25-Bed critical access hospital and 60-bed skilled nursing home, is one of the finest and up-to-date rural health care facilities in North Dakota. The city of Carrington also boasts a home health care agency, two chiropractors, two dental clinics and two eye clinics within the community. The city prides itself on having one of the lowest per-capita crime rates in North Dakota, and our emergency response times are excellent. Carrington provides round-the-clock police protection with police personnel on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The city of Carrington has very qualified fire protection and is rated a Class 6 city for fire insurance purposes, the highest rating available for a volunteer fire department.
We have a caring and responsive government and a community-wide support for the development and growth of the city of Carrington. Our city administration is dependable, proficient, and effective. It is with great pride that we say, "Carrington is a place where you can realize your dreams - you CAN get there from here!"
